HISTORY OF THE CHURCH

The First Methodist Church in Lansing, Soaptown as it was called then, was built by the Scott family in 1835 at a site adjacent to the cemetery on Church Street and served our community for 100 years. Our present church was built under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Clarence Hubbard, and was dedicated on October 17, 1935. The parsonage was constructed in 1939.

Our church finally became a full-time station (single point charge) on July 8, 1964 under the pastorship of Rev. Paul Greenwood.

As of today our church is under pastorship of Pastor John Jackson.

PASTOR JOHN JACKSON

I have been married to Clair for over 50 years. I have 2 married daughters and 5 grandchildren. I earned a Master of Divinity Degree and I have 50 years of pastoral experience.

I am thankful to be a minister.  I love God and I love God's people.  Worship is mankind's greatest act.  I pray for our worship to always be a celebration.  God is great and His people are a joy.  In our worship we hear the Good News – pray – listen to the children – sing – visit with puppets – and more.  I often write dramatic Bible narratives for members to present in worship.
